Wednesday, May 26th  is CCC Registration Day.  Seniors who are interested in attending Clatsop next year have the opportunity to meet with an advisor to schedule classes for Fall 2010.  Seniors must take the COMPASS test prior to their appointment.*

Seniors who are interested in CCC Registration Day need to return the registration form to the counseling office.  An appointment will be scheduled with an advisor based on career interest, and the student will be notified as to the appointment time.  Registration forms are available in the counseling office.

*COMPASS tests can be taken in the AHS Computer Lab.  Students must pre-arrange the test with a counseling staff member.  It is also necessary for students to bring a calculator and their social security number for the test.  COMPASS practice guides are available in the counseling office, and online here.

Helpful Interviewing Hints from the mind of Jon Graves, Talent Search Coordinator

1. Never wear t-shirt and jeans to an interview.  Dress as if you are applying for a job, not too dressy or too casual.  Avoid ill-fitting clothing and provocative outfits.

2. When meeting your interviewers, introduce yourself, make eye contact and give a firm handshake, not too hard.

3. Throughout your interview, make eye contact with your interviewers at regular intervals.  Demonstrate interest and confidence.

4. Be brief and honest with your answers.

5. Interviewers usually ask questions about what you have written on your application or in your essays, so always review your copy before you go into an interview.

6. Be prepared to discuss your college choice, career goals, financing your education and any other information you included in your application.

7. Avoid negativity!

8. Write down a few answers to some sample questions.  The process of writing out your question responses will help you be better prepared to answer during an interview.

9. Interviewers often wrap up interviews by saying either “do you have any questions for the panel” or “is there anything else you would like to add?”  Prepare one or two questions for the interviewers and/or a summary statement capturing all that you are.

10. Smile and relax!

Sample Interview Questions:- Tell us about your senior project.
- How do you plan to finance your education?  How much will it cost?

- What are your educational and career goals?
- Where do you see yourself in five years?  Ten years?
- What was your favorite class at AHS?

All students who are planning to attend Clatsop Community College will need to take the COMPASS Placement test.  This test is taken on a computer and is available in the AHS computer lab by signing up with the counseling office.

The COMPASS test provides the college will information about a student’s abilities and college readiness in the areas of writing, reading and math.  Students should prepare to spend about 90 minutes on the test.

It provides practical advice about reading and recommendations of books University of Oregon professors in various disciplines have said they wish their students had read before entering the University.
